Alfie looked on as his thoughts followed the vapours and wafted weightlessly into the air with no apparent aim or form. Opportunity never greeted him as openly as it did that day, but past experience reminded him how bad choices and regret were often met with familiar arms. He wondered about the safety of the experiment. He wondered how his friends would react. He wondered why he was suddenly given such wonderful fortune without so much as a whim or a warning. But most importantly, he wondered what his sister would think. His mind wandered off into hopeful scenarios as they played out inside his head, exploring every variable until – the vapours vanished."
