Fort Street Represent

The wait is nearly over, just 1 more sleep until Fort Street Fest. I know i'm as geed for K-0ner as everyone else is but theres an inside word that Nick Lupi from Spit Syndicate and Adit and Nick BS from Horrorshow will be making an appearence. Also stick around for Triple J's Unearthed's Phatchance who will be performing from 3:40 onwards but get there early to check out the very talented Jae Moon and battle of the bands veterans Cradle of Faith.

Seriously what a year FSHS '05 was. I remember going to the end of Year IMP concerts every year since 2000 and watching the quality school bands with Fuji Collective involved and well as Nick BS on drums. Yep thats right Solo plays (or at least played) the drums and i'm guessing there is some influence of that on Horrorshows' 'The Grey Space' and 'Inside Story '.

I also remember Miriam Waks and Nick BS being the stage band singers (yeah there were singers in the stage-band once). I have seen Miriam's performances advertised in the paper and she has appeared on Spit Sydnicate, Phatchance and Coptic Soldier tracks. My dad used to always compare Nick's style and voice to Frank Sinatra and listening to Horrorshow I can see where he is coming from.

Horrorshow have had massive success being frequently played on Triple J. They have just returned from their nationwide 'Inside Story' tour being supported by Spit Syndicate. Solo (Nick BS) brings a new depth lyrically hip hop while Adit make sbeats which are out of this world. Their first album 'The Greyspace' was ARIA nominated (easily should have won in my opinion) and I put it in my top 10 hip-hop albums. 'Inside Story' was released in 2009 and is amazing. Hopefully this time they'll win an ARIA for this album. Seriously go and check it out. Much more to write on Horrorshow in the future.

Spit Syndicate's Nick Lupi have just dropped a new album called Exile much of which is produced by Adit (gotta love the FSHS connection). Saw them live at Horrorshow's Inside Story Tour and they absolutely ripped it up, the amount of energy they brought to the stage was amazing. Definately check them out at http://www.myspace.com/spitsyndicate

Phatchance is an amazing rapper and is sure to be massive in the next few years. He achieved some success with Natural Causes (FSHS represent!) and has just recently released his first solo album Inkstains go and check it out. Seriously go and check out his perfomance because it definately be the highlight of FSHS fest. I'll leave you with an early Phatchance track from 2006 called 'One Foot Forward' (sorry about the poor quality) *edit (tagged as Natural Causes track but i'm pretty sure this is just Phatchance)

I have the 2005 flop footage of Phatchance, Solo, Nick Lupi performance and will upload in the future if i can dig it up. (R.I.P Flop btw)

In the meantime, here's a video from Horrorshow's latest concert at The Factory Theatre. They ended the show with "All Summer Long" (mine and Broseph's favourite song by them) with help from Spit Syndicate and Joyride - definitely an incredible finish to an incredible concert. Filmed with a broken wrist (H)

Also check out my friend's T-Shirt Stall which is sporting some original pieces of work. They are looking really good and are sure to go fast so get in early http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/T-shirts-est-2009/119849358027445?ref=ts

Broseph Edit:
Just a few more things on Fort Street Fest: it's on from 10:30 - 4:30 at Fort Street High School (obv) on Sunday the 16th of May (tomorrow!). Battle of the Bands starts at 10:50, if you can't make that then at least get there for Jae Moon + The Constellations at 11:40. The second half looks pretty solid with all but one band being a guest performer or Year 12 band. Origami Kitten are on at 1:20 followed by Cradle of Faith at 1:55. You can catch Focus aka K-0ner on at 2:45, then Jade Monkey at 3:10. To top off the day we have Phatchance performing at 3:40. MCs for the event are yours truly and Mr Felix Hubble (of Cradle of Faith fame). Also at the festival are food stalls, gelato, fairy floss, clothes etc etc. Check out http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=379758133972&ref=mf for more info.

Hope to see you all (yep, all 6 of you) there!
